About Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest automaker, founded by the Government of India in 1981. It was earlier known as Maruti Udyog Limited. It is the Indian subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation. The company became a subsidiary of Suzuki in 2002. It is the Japanese company’s largest subsidiary in terms of production volume and sales. Suzuki’s stake in Maruti is 58.19% as of November 2023.
Maruti Suzuki is the market leader in passenger vehicles in India. It is also the country's largest exporter of passenger vehicles.
In FY23, the company's turnover surpassed the remarkable milestone of ₹1 lakh crore, a feat accomplished by only a select few manufacturing companies in India.

Business operations
Maruti Suzuki specialises in the manufacturing, purchase and sale of motor vehicles, automobile components, and spare parts. It also facilitates pre-owned car sales, manages fleets and offers car financing. The company's diverse portfolio comprises models such as the Alto, WagonR, Swift, Swift DZire, Jumny, Grand Vitara, Ertiga and Baleno. Maruti Suzuki also provides services like financing and insurance.
From its humble beginnings, producing around 20,000 cars annually, Maruti Suzuki has experienced tremendous growth. It now manufactures nearly 20 lakh cars per year as of FY23. Over the past four decades, it has catered to over 27 million customers in India and around 100 other countries worldwide.
Maruti Suzuki operates various facilities across India that cater to different aspects of its operations. The company's research & development centres in Rohtak and Gurugram are strategically located to facilitate efficient functioning.
The company has manufacturing sites at Gurugram and Manesar and both combined are capable of producing around 1.5 million units per annum. It has its regional parts distribution centres in Bengaluru, Nagpur and Siliguri.
In response to the growing market demand for Maruti Suzuki’s products, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, was set up in Hansalpur, Gujarat. It has been operational since 2017. With an annual production capacity of 0.75 million units, SMG significantly contributes to the company's overall production capability which stands at approximately 2.25 million units per year. The company manages the sales and distribution of units produced at the facility in Gujarat.
Maruti Suzuki has an expansive service channel spanning the nation. This network includes traditional brick-and-mortar service centres alongside mobile support units, delivering services directly to customers' doorsteps. The service infrastructure includes 781 vehicles designated for quick response, 348 mobile workshops and a vast network of 4,564 touch points spread across 2,304 cities.
Financial highlights
Maruti Suzuki’s revenue from operations for FY23 stood at ₹1,17,571.3 crore, up 33.1% from ₹88,329.8 crore in the previous financial year. The company recorded a net profit of ₹ 8,211 crore in FY23 against ₹3,879.5 crore in FY22. The earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹271.82 in FY23 compared to ₹128.43 in the previous financial year.
