In the last few decades, more than 5,000 new planets have been discovered outside our solar system. Let's look at some of the weirdest planets discovered in the Milky Way galaxy!

Also called “ultra-hot Jupiter,” this gas giant is 2.8 times the size of Jupiter. It is so hot that its heat tears hydrogen molecules apart.

KELT-9 b

This cherry-blossom pink gas giant is four times the size of Jupiter and still glows from the heat of its formation. 

GJ 504 b

This exoplanet is 245 light-years away from Earth and sees two suns set over the horizon. It is nicknamed “Tatooine" after Luke Skywalker's home planet with two suns in Star Wars. 

Kepler-16b

At a distance of 41 light-years is the so-called super-Earth, 55 Cancri e, which is covered in an ocean of lava and has sparkling skies.

Sometimes referred to as “Earth’s evil twin”, this planet gets sideways rains of molten glass along with winds that reach up to 2 km/s and a smell of rotten eggs.

HD 189733 b

The “planet of eternal night” is the darkest ever discovered orbiting a star. It is less reflective than coal and is said to emit a faint red glow from its burning atmosphere.
