While the DoP has mandated fully digital onboarding, local officials may still ask for your Aadhaar number or a physical copy of the original Aadhaar. To avoid this, and to curb potential misuse of Aadhaar, the DoP has said only masked Aadhaar shall be collected by officials for opening of these small savings scheme accounts.
And in case a document has an Aadhaar, then it will be the duty of the concerned post master to mask the first eight digits with black ink.
"For any eKYC-based transactions, AOF or any other form collected from the customer shall have Aadhar no. in masked form (xxxx-xxxx-_). If any document contains the unmasked Aadhaar, Postmaster should ensure that first eight digits of the Aadhaar number are masked using black ink pen or sketch or any available means," the DoP said.
Further, it is the responsibility of the post offices to ensure that the Aadhaar number is masked in all existing documents like AOF, KYC form, etc.
You can download a masked Aadhaar from the UIDAI website by logging in with your Aadhaar number.
After visiting the UIDAI website, click on "Login" and enter your Aadhaar number, Captcha code, and click "Send OTP". You will receive the OTP on your registered mobile number.
You'll be logged in after entering the OTP. After this, click on "Download Aadhaar," where you will also get an option to download "Masked Aadhaar". You can click on it, and the masked Aadhaar will be downloaded as a password-protected PDF, which can be opened by entering the first four letters of your name in capital letters, followed by your year of birth in YYYY format.
