SUMMARY

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) transfer claim rejection rule has been revised by the EPFO. It says transfer claim requests should be processed even if there are overlapping services.

In a relief to Employees Provident Fund account holders, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has directed all its regional offices not to reject PF transfer claim requests due to overlap in the service period of members.

"It has been observed that Transfer Claim requests are being rejected due to the issue of Overlap in Service Periods by the Regional Offices. However, overlapping in services can occur due to genuine reasons and therefore the same should not be considered to be a disqualification per-se in effecting transfers," the EPFO instructed all its zonal offices on May 20, 2025.

The provident fund body further said that transfer claim requests should be processed even if there are overlapping services. Such transfer claim requests should be paused only in cases where a genuine need for clarification is felt.

"Therefore, the Transfer Claim requests are required to be processed by the Transferor (Source) Office even though there may be overlapping services without returning or rejecting the same. Only in cases where a genuine need is felt to clarify the overlapping of service, would the claims be processed after obtaining the requisite clarification," the EPFO said.

The above decision of the EPFO has the approval of the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFO).
