Fake currency notes are on the rise. Learn how to verify if a ₹500 note is genuine, using RBI's guidelines in a few simple steps.
Hold the note up to light. The number '500' should be clearly visible as a see-through register on the left side.
The note carries ‘५००’ written in Devanagari script. This is a must-have print in all genuine ₹500 notes.
A clear image of Mahatma Gandhi is printed in the centre. The quality should be sharp and not faded.
Check the green thread with ‘भारत’ and ‘RBI’. It moves slightly and changes colour when tilted.
You’ll see a watermark of Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait and '500'. There’s also a guarantee with the RBI Governor’s signature.
The number ‘500’ on the bottom right of the note changes colour from green to blue when you tilt it.
