Under the scheme, the centre offers a cover of up to ₹5 lakh for all citizens above 70 years of age.

What is a Vay Vandana card?

The Vay Vandana card, introduced in October 2024, allows senior citizens to access the benefits offered under the AB PM-JAY scheme. The cardholders can avail of free healthcare services at both public and private hospitals. There is no specific income limit for the card, and it will cover the out-of-pocket expenses of senior citizens, as per a government statement made in November last year.

How to apply for an Ayushman Vay Vandana Card through the Ayushman app?

To apply for the card through the Ayushman app, you can follow these steps:
Step 1: Download the Ayuhsman Bharat app from Google Play Store. Step 2: You can log in as a beneficiary or an operator, based on what is applicable. Choose the option and enter the required information like mobile number, mode of authentication and captcha to log in. Step 3: Fill in the details of the beneficiary including state and Aadhaar details. Step 4: If a beneficiary isn’t found, do the e-KYC process and give consent for OTP. Step 5: Fill up the required fields in the declaration and submit it. Step 6: Enter the mobile number and OTP of the beneficiary. Step 7: Provide details like category and PIN code. Step 8: Enter the details of family members and submit. Step 9: Once the e-KYC is completed and approved, you can download the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card.

Aadhaar-based e-KYC is necessary for the issuance of the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, and senior citizens can apply regardless of their economic status. Individuals who seek more help or further information regarding the card can contact the authority by giving a missed call on 1800 11 0770.
