The benchmark equity indices on Friday, April 11, were trading higher during the afternoon trade.

At 2 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX soared 1,306.40 points, or 1.77%, at the 75,153.55 level, while NSE’s NIFTY50 was at the 22,832.40 level, jumping 433.25 points, or 1.93%.

Hindalco, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Coal India and ONGC were the biggest gainers on the NIFTY50 index, surging as much as 6.72%.

Only five out of 50 stocks were trading negatively on the NIFTY50 index. Tata Consultancy Services, Asian Paints, Apollo Hospitals, Infosys and HDFC Life were trading lower by as much as 0.80%.

On Friday, shares of Uma Exports, Kotal Nifty PSU Bank ETF, Gravita India, Mirae Asset Mutual Fund and Cello World were among the ones witnessing the highest spurt in trading volumes on the NIFTY50 index.

A volume in the stock volume is the number of shares traded in a specific period. A spurt in volume means the stock is witnessing a lot of interest or activity happening around the equity market.

Market investors use this metric to determine their interest in a stock.

Following that, volumes at the Kotak Nifty PSU Bank ETF counter were 15.90 times higher than the daily average; however, the Gravita India counter saw 13.13 times higher volume than the daily average.

Similarly, counters of Mirae Asset Mutual Fund – Mirae Asset Silver ETF and Cello World Limited witnessed 12.49- and 11.50-times higher volume than the daily average, respectively. While volumes at the RACL Geartech counter were 11.37 times higher than the daily average.

Counters of Sarda Energy & Minerals Limited and Edelweiss Mutual Fund – Edelweiss Nifty Bank ETF saw 9.47 times and 7.68 times higher trading volumes during the day. Trejhara Solutions Limited and Man Infraconstruction saw 7.25 times and 6.41 times higher volumes, respectively.
