Top gainers and losers on May 9: Titan, L&T, Tata Motors, Bharat Electronics rise over 3%; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply lower in trade on Friday, May 9, as rising geo-political tensions between India and Pakistan dented sentiment towards equities. ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, ITC and Axis Bank were among the biggest drags on the SENSEX. They collectively wiped out over 700 points from the SENSEX, data from BSE showed. The SENSEX ended 880 points or 1.10% lower at 79,454.47 and NIFTY50 index declined 265.80 points or 1.10% to close at 24,008.

NIFTY50 gainers and losers

As many as 38 shares in NIFTY50 index ended lower. ICICI Bank was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 3.24% to close at ₹1,389. Power Grid (-2.74%), Grasim (-2.22%), UltraTech Cement (-2.22%), Shriram Finance (2.08%) were also among the losers.

On the flipside, Titan was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 4.17% to close at ₹3,509.90 after its net profit in March quarter rose 13% to ₹871 crore from ₹771 crore in the same period last year.

Its total income increased to ₹14,049 crore for the fourth quarter as compared with ₹11,472 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Larsen & Toubro closed 3.84% higher at ₹3,451 after infrastructure major reported a 25% increase in its consolidated profit after tax (PAT) at ₹5,497.26 crore for the quarter ending March 31 of the financial year 2024-25. The company had seen a profit of ₹4,396.12 crore in the same quarter of te previous fiscal year.

Tata Motors (3.83%), Bharat Electronics (2.93%) and State Bank of India (1.50%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended 6 points lower at 53,223. As many as 50 shares in the index ended lower while 47 closed lower. YES Bank was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock surged 10% to close at ₹20.05. SBI post market hours informed exchanges that it will be selling 13.19% stake in YES Bank to SMBC.

Union Bank of India rose 6.33% to close at ₹122.90 after its net profit jumped 50% to ₹4,985 crore from ₹3,310 crore in the same period last year.

Its asset quality showed an improvement as its gross non-performing assets (NPA), as a percentage of total advances, came in at 3.60% as against 4.76% in the year-ago period.

Bharat Dynamics (5.79%), Bharat Forge (4.72%) and UPL (3.88%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Apollo Tyres was top loser NIFTY Midcap 100 index. The stock fell 3.61% to close at ₹467. M&M Financial Services (-3.57%), Patanjali Foods (-2.65%), Torrent Power (-2.60%) and Dixon Technologies (-2.47%) were also among the laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index fell 0.61% or 98 points to close at 16,085.65. As many as 60 shares in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended lower while 40 ended higher.

Sonata Software was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 5.91% to close at ₹369.40. MCX (-5.25%), Trident (-3.45%), Amber Enterprises (-3.44%) and Himadri Speciality Chemical (-3.40%) were also among the losers.

On the flipside, Welspun Living was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100, the stock rose 7.51% to close at ₹148.25. Zen Technologies (4.99%), Data Patterns (4.35%), Redington (4.24%) and Gujarat State Petronet (3.29%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
