Top gainers and losers on April 29: Trent surges 5.77%, Reliance, Bharat Electronics gain for second session, check full list

SUMMARY

The SENSEX rose as much as 443 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,457.65. However, owing to profit booking in banking shares the benchmarks came off intraday highs.

Both the midcap and smallcap indices were outperforming the equity benchmark indices during the intraday period.

The Indian equity benchmarks gained for second straight session on Tuesday, April 29, led by gains in Reliance Industries, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Eternal and HCL Technologies. The SENSEX rose as much as 443 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,457.65. However, owing to profit booking in banking shares the benchmarks came off intraday highs. The SENSEX ended 70 points higher 80,288 and NIFTY50 index advanced 7 points to close at 24,335.95.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Trent was gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 5.77% to close at ₹5,510 after it reported March quarter earnings. Trent's net profit in January-March period fell 46% to ₹350 crore as against ₹654 crore.

Its revenue from operations, however, rose 29% to ₹4,106 crore from 3,187 crore in the year-ago period.

Bharat Electronics advanced 3.97% to close at ₹317 mirroring broad buying interest in defence shares in the wake of heightened geo-political tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

Tech Mahindra (2.29%), Tech Mahindra (2.29%) and Reliance Industries (2.20%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Sun Pharma was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 2.25% to close at ₹1,800. UltraTech Cement (-2.18%), Coal India (-2.13%), ONGC (-1.98%) and Dr Reddy's Labs (-1.88%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index rose 0.27% or 148 points to close at 54,587.95. As many as 56 shares in the index ended lower while 44 ended higher. Cochin Shipyard was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 9.88% to close at ₹1,650.50. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (8.71%), Tube Investments of India (6.12%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings (5.56%) and Prestige Estates Projects (4.54%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Tata Technologies was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 6.11% to close at ₹552.50 on the back of heavy trading volumes.

Aurobindo Pharma (-2.82%), Vodafone Idea (-2.68%), Oberoi Realty (-1.94%) and Exide Industries (-1.93%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index rose 0.37% or 62 points to close at 16,738.70. As many as 51 shares in the index closed lower while 49 ended higher. Data Patterns was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 14.93% to close at ₹2,570. Garden Reach Shipbuilders (12.25%) both the shares mirrored larger buying trend in defence sector shares.

PNB Housing Finance rose 4.70% to close at ₹1,032.60 after the company reported a 25.3% increase in its consolidated net profit at ₹550.38 crore for the March quarter of the financial year 2024-25. Its profit for the same period last year was at ₹439.25 crore.

The housing finance firm’s interest income for Q4 FY25 also advanced 13% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹1,906 crore as against ₹1,693 crore reported in the corresponding quarter last fiscal year.

Credit Access Grameen (4.39%) and Indiamart (4.22%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Go Digit fell 6.84% to close at ₹288 despite its profit more than doubling in March quarter. PCBL Chemicals fell 3.72% after its net profit declined nearly 10% in March quarter.

Castrol India (-3.06%), Tejas Networks (-2.24%) and Neuland Laboratories (-2.18%) were also among the losers.
