The Indian equity benchmarks surged for seventh session in a row on Wednesday, April 23, led by gains in Infosys, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, Mahindra & Mahindra and Bharti Airtel. The SENSEX rose as much as 659 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,359.3. The SENSEX ended 521 points higher at 80,116.49 and NIFTY50 index advanced 162 points to close at 24,329. In the last seven trading session, NIFTY50 index has advanced 8.61%.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

HCL Technologies was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 7.74% to close at ₹1,594.40 after the company reported strong set of March quarter earnings post market hours on Tuesday.

The Noida-based company reported a net profit of ₹4,307 crore for the quarter ended March 2025, marking an increase of 8.05% from ₹3,986 crore in the same period last year. On a sequential basis, HCL Technologies' net profit, however, declined 6.18% from ₹4,591 crore.

For financial year 2026, HCL Technologies expects revenue to grow in the range of 2%-5%. Services revenue is likely to grow in a range of 2%-5% while EBIT margin is likely to be in a range of 18%-19%.

Tech Mahindra (4.76%), Tata Motors (4.44%), Wipro (3.87%) and Infosys (3.75%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Kotak Mahindra Bank was top NIFTY loser, the stock fell 2.09% to close at ₹2,221 on account of profit booking in banking shares after sharp run up in the last seven trading sessions. HDFC Bank (-2.09%), Grasim (-1.98%), State Bank of India (-1.08%) and Eicher Motors (-0.93%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 index gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index jumped 1.18% or 643.95 points to close at 55,041.10. As many as 70 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended higher while 30 shares closed lower. Waaree Energies was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 14.76% to close at ₹3,002 after it reported strong March quarter earnings.

The renewable energy company logged a 34.1% jump in its consolidated post-tax profit to ₹618.91 crore in the March quarter of FY25 as against ₹461.52 crore in the same period the previous year.

Revenue from operations increased 36.38% to ₹4,003.93 crore in the reporting quarter, compared to ₹2,935.84 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in an exchange filing.

AU Small Finance Bank rose 7.89% to close at ₹662.20 after its net profit in March quarter rose 18% to ₹504 crore. During the latest fourth quarter, the bank's total income increased to ₹5,031 crore from ₹3,385 crore in Q4FY24, AU Small Finance Bank said in a regulatory filing.

Net Interest Income (NII) grew 57% to ₹2,094 crore compared to ₹1,337 crore in the year-ago period, it said.

Coforge (6.38%), Sona BLW (5.88%) and OFSS (5.71%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Muthoot Finance (-3.46%), Voltas (-3.44%), M&M Financial Services (-2.80%), HPCL (-2.41%) and PB Fintech (-1.95%) were among the losers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 0.44% or 74 points to close at 16,969.75. As many as 53 shares in the index ended higher while 47 edged lower.

Inventurus Knowledge Solutions was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock rose 6.81% to close at ₹1,516.60. Redington (6.08%), Newgen Software (5.77%), Godfrey Philips (5%) and Birlasoft (4.20%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.

On the contrary, Philips Carbon Black was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock declined 2.77% to close at ₹410. BLS International (-2.77%), Himadri Speciality Chemical (-2.70%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (-2.48%) and Five-Star Business Finance (-2.34%) were among the losers.
