The Indian equity benchmarks rose for a fifth straight session on Monday, April 21 on hopes of a bilateral trade agreement with United States after US Vice President JD Vance landed in India for talks to unlock economic opportunities and negotiate a bilateral trade deal. The SENSEX rose as much as 1,081.80 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,189.55. The SENSEX ended 855 points or 1.09% higher at 79,408.50 and NIFTY50 index advanced 274 points to close at 24,125.55. In the last five trading session, the NIFTY50 index has advanced 7.70%, data from the National Stock Exchange showed.
As many as 39 shares in the NIFTY50 index ended higher. Tech Mahindra was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 5.14% to close at ₹1,374 as IT stocks witnessed buying interest following earnings report from country's second largest IT company Infosys.
NIFTY Midcap 100 index advanced 2.5% or 1,316.65 points to close at 53,974.45. As many as 92 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended higher. Vodafone Idea was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 10.81% to close at ₹8.10 after Government of India officially raised its stake in the telecom firm to 48.99% after converting its ₹36,950 crore AGR dues.
The government is already the single largest shareholder in the battered company with a 22.6% stake, and the fresh move will take its total holding to more than the combined stake of the company's promoter firms – Vodafone and Aditya Birla Group.
Suzlon jumped 9.55% to close at ₹55.07 after the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy released a circular that updated the list of parts of the Wind Turbine Model to be procured locally.
Tata Elxsi advanced 8.99% to settle at ₹5,341 its revenue in rupee terms came in at ₹908.3 crore, up 0.3% YoY, but down 3.3% QoQ. In constant currency terms, the company's revenue saw a decline of 2.9% YoY and 5.3% QoQ.
AU Small Finance Bank (7.32%) and BSE (6.29%) were also among gainers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.
On the contrary, Marico (-2.75%), Max Healthcare (-1.19%), Colgate Palmolive (-0.99%), NTPC Green (-0.81%) and BHEL (-0.26%) were among the notable losers.
NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 2.21% or 363 points to close at 16,773.35. As many as 89 shares in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended higher while 11 closed lower. Kalpataru Projects International was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock rose 13.46% to close at ₹1,060. KFIN Tech (9.86%), CDSL (5.79%), Aarti Industries (5.57%) and Zensar Technologies (5.45%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, RK Forgings (-2.51%), PCBL (-1.78%), Zen Technologies (-1.72%) and Narayana Hrudayalaya (-1.64%) were among the notable laggards in NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
