The Indian equity benchmarks rose for third session in a row on Wednesday, April 16. The SENSEX rose as much as 375 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 23,452 led by gains in banking shares. The measure of banking stocks on the National Stock Exchange ended 1.41% higher. The SENSEX ended 309 points higher at 77,044.29 and NIFTY50 index advanced 108.65 points or 0.47% to close at 23,437.20.

Axis Bank (4.33%), ONGC (3.50%), Trent (3.38%) and Adani Ports (2.04%) were also among the gainers.
On the flipside, Maruti Suzuki was top loser in the NIFTY50 basket. The stock fell 1.60% to close at ₹11,665. Hindalco (-1.29%), Tata Motors (-0.98%), Infosys (-0.97%) and NTPC (-0.87%) were also among the losers.
NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended 0.71% or 371 points higher at 52,345.55. As many as 69 shares in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended higher while 30 closed lower. NTPC Green Energy was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock rose 6.95% to close at ₹105.79. IREDA jumped 5.65% after it reported strong set of earnings in March quarter.
Indian Bank (4.81%), Bank of India (4.44%) and Union Bank of India (4.08%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.
On the other hand, Lupin was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock declined 3.87% to close at ₹1,935. Sona BLW Precision Forgings (-3.59%), TI India (-2.40%), Bharat Forge (-1.80%) and Torrent Power (-1.70%) were also among the laggards in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.
NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced 1.05% or 169.95 to close at 16,349.25. As many as 81 shares in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended higher while 19 closed lower. JBM Auto was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock jumped 10.70% to close at ₹691.95. NBCC (7.04%), ITI (5%), KFIN Tech (4.55%) and Swan Energy (4.36%) were also among the gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
On the flipside, Mahangar Gas (-4.68%), Amber Enterprises (-1.95%), Anant Raj (-1.58%), Himadri Speciality Chemical (-1.45%) and Gujarat State Petronet (-1.38%) were among the losers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
