The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index closed 0.92% down at 17,265.15 on Tuesday.

Top gainers and losers: Key Indian benchmark indices, BSE SENSEX and NSE NIFTY50, closed in the red on Tuesday, December 16, amid weak global sentiment, persistent foreign fund outflows and a weak rupee.

SENSEX settled 533.50 points (0.63%) lower at 84,679.86, while NIFTY50 closed 167.20 points (0.64%) down at 25,860.10. 

According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹1,468.32 crore on Monday, and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought stocks worth ₹1,792.25 crore. 

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell by 1.54% to $59.63 per barrel. 

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Shares of Axis Bank fell by as much as 5.12% on Tuesday. Other losers on the index were Eternal (-4.67), JSW Steel (-2.66%), HCL Tech (-1.91%) and Tata Steel (-1.78%). 

In contrast, top gainers included Bharti Airtel (1.7%), followed by Titan (1.65%), Tata Consumer Products (1.26%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.58%) and Bajaj Auto (0.55%). 

Axis Bank’s stock fell after Citi Research released its latest report, saying that Axis Bank’s net interest margin (NIM) recovery could take longer than previous management guidance and could be delayed to Q4 FY26 or Q1 FY27, instead of the earlier guidance of Q3 FY26.

The fall in Eternal's stock price was likely due to a note from global investment firm UBS, which reportedly highlighted that Swiggy gained market share from Eternal in the food delivery segment during November. Read more about it here.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Midcap 100 index fell by 0.83% on Tuesday, standing at 59,710.80 at the close. The top loser on the index was PB Fintech, which fell by 5.26%. The other laggards were Swiggy (-4.21%), Bharat Dynamics (-3.61%), KPIT Technologies (-3.37%) and Premier Energies (-3.14%). 

Top gainers, on the other hand, were Supreme Industries (3.84%), Astral (2.06%), Bharti Hexacom (2.05%), Vishal Mega Mart (1.68%) and Tata Communications (1.54%). 

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index closed 0.92% down at 17,265.15 on Tuesday. Top losers on the index were Ola Electric (-8.51%), NBCC (-3.59%), Redington (-3.18%), Hindustan Copper (-3.01%) and NCC (-2.87%). 

On the other hand, top gainers were Five-Star Business Finance (2.58%), Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals (2.11%), Natco Pharma (1.41%), Inventurus Knowledge Solutions (1.13%) and Wockhardt (1.12%).
