Stock market today: The domestic stock market was in the red in the afternoon deals amid a sharp fall in global stocks after US President Donald Trump's eye-watering 104% tariffs on China took effect.

Besides, the 26% tariff on Indian imports to the US also took effect today.

The S&P BSE SENSEX was trading at 73,912.41, down 314.67 points, or 0.42%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index was trading at 22,423.75, down 112.10 points, or 0.5%.

Mastek: Shares of Mastek were trading 8.73% higher at ₹2,151.95 apiece on the BSE. The company is slated to unveil its financial results for the March 2024 quarter (Q4 FY25) on April 18.
Senco Gold: Shares of jewellery retail chain Senco Gold hit the upper circuit on Wednesday after the company released its fourth-quarter business update.

The stock rose 5% to ₹318.25 apiece, its upper circuit mark, on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

The Kolkata-based jewellery retailer reported a 23% year-on-year (YoY) retail growth despite rising gold prices in the January-March quarter of FY25, due to a robust wedding season. READ MORE
Transformers and Rectifiers: Shares of Transformers and Rectifiers, a leading Indian manufacturer of transformers and reactors, hit their 5% upper circuit limit of ₹518.70 apiece on the NSE on Wednesday, April 9, after the company reported a strong set of numbers for the quarter that ended March 31, 2024 (Q4 FY25).

The company on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit more than doubled to ₹94.20 crore in the quarter that ended March 2025.

It posted a ₹41.62 crore net profit for the January-March quarter of FY24. READ MORE
IT stocks: Shares of IT companies were reeling under pressure ahead of TCS' results announcement. According to news reports, Jefferies, in its latest note on India's Information Technology (IT) sector, warned that growing uncertainty and a potentially worsening business outlook, especially following the recent tariff announcement, could negatively impact IT demand through at least FY26.

The NIFTY IT index was trading 2% lower at 32,578.55.

The top losers were Wipro (down nearly 4%), Persistent Systems (down 3.37%), and Coforge (down 2.64%).

Muthoot Finance, Manappuram, and others: Shares of gold loan finance companies were trading with losses after RBI Governor, while announcing monetary policy, said the central bank will soon come out with comprehensive guidelines on gold loans, a segment that has witnessed explosive growth in the last year.

Muthoot Finance was trading at ₹2,143.50 on the NSE, down 6.51%.

LT Foods: The stock was trading 7.73% lower at ₹314.55 on the BSE. LT Foods Ltd. is one of the leading Indian-origin global FMCG companies in the consumer food space.
CarTrade Tech: CarTrade Tech shares were trading 8.57% lower at ₹1,393.75 apiece on the BSE. The scrip saw a spurt in volume of more than 3.06 times.
