Stock market today: The Indian equity benchmarks extended losses in noon deals dragged down by weakness in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, ITC and Tata Consultancy Services. The SENSEX dropped as much as 1,215.71 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,597.60 on account of profit booking after staging best day in over four years in the previous session.

  3. Share market update | Suven Life Sciences shares trade over 7% higher

    Shares of Suven Life Sciences were trading over 7% higher at ₹163.90 apiece on the BSE on Tuesday.

    The company reported a widening of consolidated net loss to ₹43.95 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2025, hit by a dip in revenue and higher expenses.

    The company had posted a consolidated net loss of ₹26.54 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal.

    Consolidated revenue from operations in the quarter under review stood at ₹1.47 crore against ₹2.39 crore in the year-ago period, it added.

    Total expenses in the March quarter were higher at ₹46.63 crore as compared to ₹34.21 crore in the same period a year ago, the company said.

  4. Commodity market update | Copper futures gain on higher spot demand

    Copper futures rose 0.29% to ₹857.80 per kilogram on Tuesday due to higher spot demand.

    On the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper contracts for June delivery climbed ₹2.50 or 0.29% to ₹857.80 per kg in a business turnover of 1,658 lots.

    Analysts attributed the rise in copper prices to higher bets by participants.

  5. Stock market update | Thomas Cook (India) shares fall 3% after Q4 results

    Thomas Cook India shares were trading nearly 3% lower at ₹141.05 apiece on the BSE.

    The company on Monday reported a 13.5% rise in consolidated net profit at ₹66 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2025, mainly on account of growth in travel-related services.

    The travel services provider had reported a net profit of ₹58.17 crore, in the year-ago period.

    The company's total income from operations rose to ₹2,022 crore during the quarter under review, as against ₹1,692.61 crore in the year-ago period.

    However, its total expenses also increased to ₹1,930.45 crore, from ₹1,631.92 crore, the company said in a late-evening filing on Monday.

  7. India’s retaliatory tariffs on US steel imports: Implications on India’s steel sector; Here’s all you need to know

    In a surprising development amid the rising geopolitical tensions and easing trade tensions, India proposed retaliatory measures on the US steel and aluminium imports. The retaliatory measures under the WTO (World Trade Organisation) norms against the US over American tariffs on steel and aluminium in the name of safeguard measures.

    The retaliatory safeguard measures would result in an equivalent amount of duty collected from the products manufactured and originating from the US."The safeguard measures would affect USD 7.6 billion imports into the US of the relevant products originating in India, on which the duty collection would be USD 1.91 billion," a WTO communication said.

    The US introduced safeguard measures in 2018 on certain steel and aluminium products, imposing 25% on steel and 10% on aluminium ad valorem tariffs. In February 2025, the US further revised the tariffs to 25% with an unlimited duration.

  9. 24k Gold rate bounces back above ₹94,000 per 10 gram; check latest prices

    Gold rate in the domestic market steadied today, trading marginally higher after witnessing a steep fall in the previous session. At 10:30 am, the 24K gold rate in the local market stood at ₹94,130 per 10 gram, up ₹910/10 gram compared to yesterday’s closing, while 22K gold was at ₹86,286 per 10 gram.

    Yellow metal prices are stable today after yesterday’s fall, as investors ditched gold and moved smart money to stocks and other riskier assets amid de-escalation in the US-China trade war.

    Over the weekend, the US government announcement to reduce reciprocal tariffs on China from 145% to 30% for 90 days, temporarily eased global trade tensions and recession fears in the United States. Besides this, rise in the US dollar index also led to reduced demand for gold.

  10. Care Ratings jumps 10% after profit jumps 77% in March quarter

    Shares of Care Ratings soared 10% on Tuesday, May 13, after the firm reported a 77% jump in its net profit to ₹43.37 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31. The domestic ratings firm had a net profit of ₹24.55 crore in the March quarter of 2023-24.

    Its total income increased to ₹124.82 crore in the January-March period from ₹100.43 crore in the March quarter of FY24.

    For the full fiscal 2024-25, its net profit surged 36.5% to ₹140 crore against ₹102.56 crore in 2023-24.

    The Board of Directors has also recommended a final dividend of ₹11 per share (of ₹10 face value), which will take the total dividend declared for the year to ₹18 per share.

    Shares of One97 Communications, the owner of the Paytm brand, declined 5 per cent on Tuesday morning trade amid reports that financial Services company Ant Group is likely to offload up to 4 per cent stake worth about Rs 2,066 crore in the fintech firm.

    The stock dropped 4.99 per cent to Rs 823.10 on the BSE.

    At the NSE, it tanked 4 per cent to Rs 830.55.

  12. Power Mech Projects gains after winning ₹982 crore order

    Shares of Power Mech Projects rose as much as 3.78% to hit an intraday high of ₹2,829.60 on the BSE after it informed exchanges that it has won an order worth ₹983 crore from Telangana Power Generation Corporation for the construction of an integrated township.

    The order will be executed in 30 months from the date of taking over of site, the company said in a regulatory filing.

    According to the filing, the company has secured a Rs 971.98 crore order from Telangana Power Generation Corporation for construction of an integrated township with infrastructural works consisting of independent quarters, multistoried residential quarters and its associated works at Yadadri Thermal Power Station at Damaracherla, Nalgonda District, Telangana.

  13. Gensol shares continue to slide, hit new lower circuit limit

    Shares of Gensol Engineering tanked 5% on Tuesday, May 13, hitting a new lower circuit limit, after promoters of the beleaguered firm Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi, resigned from the company.

    The stock dropped 4.99% to ₹51.84 -- its 52-week low as well as the lower circuit limit -- on the BSE.

    At the NSE, shares of the firm tumbled 5% to hit the lowest trading permissible limit for the day as also a 52-week low of ₹51.25.

  15. Happiest Minds Technologies' Q4 profit drops 53% to ₹34 crore; stock down over 2%

    Happiest Minds Technologies reported a 52.7% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹34 crore in the March-ended quarter.

    It had posted a profit of ₹71.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing.

    Revenue for the quarter under review rose 30.5% to ₹544.5 crore, compared with ₹417.2 crore in Q4 FY24.

    Sequentially, profit dropped 32%, while revenue rose 2.5%.

    The firm added 14 new clients in Q4, bringing the tally to 281.

    For the full FY25, the Bengaluru-headquartered firm logged a profit of ₹184.6 crore, a 25.6% dip from ₹248.3 crore in FY24.

    Shares were trading over 2% lower at ₹595.10 apiece on the BSE.

  16. Market Update | Rupee jumps 74 paise to 84.62 against US dollar

    The rupee appreciated 74 paise to 84.62 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, supported by optimism from easing of tensions between India and Pakistan as well as the US-China trade deal.

    Forex traders said continued foreign investor interest in Indian assets lent fundamental support to the local unit.

    India and Pakistan on last Saturday announced reaching an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea, with immediate effect.

    At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 84.70 and fell to an early low of 84.74 and a high of 84.62 against the greenback, registering a gain of 74 paise over its previous close.

  21. IndiGo cancels all May 13 flights to and from Jammu, Chandigarh, 4 other cities amid fresh drone threat

    IndiGo cancelled all flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot for May 13, 2025, citing safety concerns following suspected drone sightings near the India-Pakistan border.

    The airline issued a travel advisory urging passengers to check flight statuses on its website or app before heading to airports.

    “In light of the latest developments and with your safety as our utmost priority, flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot are cancelled for 13th May 2025,” the advisory read.

    “We understand how this may disrupt your travel plans, and regret the inconvenience caused. Our teams are actively monitoring the situation and will promptly keep you informed of further updates,” it added.

  22. Stocks to watch: Siemens, Paytm, GRSE, Taj GVK Hotels, Tata Steel

    Tata Steel: Tata Steel has reported a two-fold jump in consolidated net profit to ₹1,200.88 crore for the March quarter, supported by higher volumes and reduced controllable costs despite a drop in realisations.

    It had posted a consolidated net profit of ₹554.56 crore in the January-March period of 2023-24, the company said in an exchange filing.

    The company's total income, however, declined to ₹56,679.11 crore from ₹58,863.22 crore in the year-ago quarter.

    Tata Steel reduced expenses to ₹54,167.61 crore from ₹56,496.33 crore in the year-ago period.

    Care Ratings: Care Ratings on Monday reported a 77% jump in its net profit to ₹43.37 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31.

    The domestic ratings firm had a net profit of ₹24.55 crore in the March quarter of 2023-24.

    One97 Communications: One97 Communications, the parent firm of fintech Paytm, will be in focus as financial services company Ant Group is likely to offload up to 4% of its stake in the company, worth about ₹2,066 crore. The sale will be executed through bulk deals on BSE and NSE on May 13, and involves the sale of up to 25.5 million shares of Noida-based Paytm, they added.

    Ant Group, formerly known as Ant Financial, is an affiliate company of the Chinese conglomerate Alibaba Group.

    Ather Energy: Electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy, which made its debut on stock exchanges early this month, on Monday reported an 18% drop in losses to ₹234.40 crore for the March quarter, aided by better gross margins. The company had posted a loss of ₹283.30 crore in the year-ago period.

    The income from operations during the quarter rose 29.5% to ₹676.1 crore from ₹523.4 crore a year ago, it said.

    For 2024-25, Ather Energy posted a net loss of ₹812 crore compared to ₹1,059.70 crore a year ago.

    Cochin Shipyard: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) and Drydocks World, a DP World company, are deepening their partnership to develop ship repair and offshore fabrication hubs across India.

    This collaboration follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mumbai last month during the visit of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, according to a Shipyard statement here on Monday.

    The MoU was signed in the presence of DP World's Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, and CSL's Chairman and Managing Director, Madhu S Nair.

    Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services: Fintech platform Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services on Monday posted a 67% rise in net profit to ₹32 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2025.

  23. India proposes retaliatory duties against US over steel, aluminium tariffs in WTO

    India on Monday proposed to impose retaliatory duties under the WTO (World Trade Organisation) norms against the US over American tariffs on steel and aluminium in the name of safeguard measures.

    "The safeguard measures would affect $7.6 billion imports into the US of the relevant products originating in India, on which the duty collection would be $1.91 billion," a WTO communication said.

    Accordingly, it said, India's proposed suspension of concessions would result in an equivalent amount of duty collected from products originating in America.

    Earlier in April, India had sought consultations with the US under the WTO's safeguard agreement, following American authorities' decision to impose these tariffs.

    Over 80 companies will report their earnings number for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024-25 on Tuesday, May 13. This includes telecom majors like Bharti Airtel and Bharti Hexacom; auto firms Tata Motors and Hero MotoCorp; pharma majors like Cipla, Suven Life Sciences and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals; and state-owned gas utility company GAIL.

  25. Paytm shares in focus as reports suggest Antfin to sell up to 4% stake in firm via block deal

    Shares of Paytm parent One 97 Communications will in focus as China’s fintech giant Antfin is expected to sell up to 4% of its stake in the firm via a block deal worth ₹2,066 crore, according to news reports.
    People with knowledge of the development told CNBC-TV18 that the floor price for the transaction is set at ₹809.75 per share, representing a 6.5% discount to Paytm's current market price.

    Paytm has seen several selldowns in the past two years, including the exit of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Japan's SoftBank Group. Antfin had also previously sold a 10.3% stake in Paytm in August 2023 to founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

  26. US stocks surge after 90-day truce in US-China trade war

    Stocks rallied Monday after China and the United States announced a 90-day truce in their trade war. Each of the world’s two largest economies agreed to take down temporarily most of its tariffs against the other, which economists had warned could start a recession and create shortages on U.S. store shelves.

    The S&P 500 shot up 3.3% to pull back within 5% of its all-time high set in February. It’s been roaring higher since falling nearly 20% below the mark last month on hopes that President Donald Trump will lower his tariffs after reaching trade deals with other countries. The index at the heart of many 401(k) accounts is back above where it was on April 2, Trump’s “Liberation Day,” when he announced stiff worldwide tariffs that ignited worries about a potentially self-inflicted recession.

    The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1,160 points, or 2.8%, and the Nasdaq composite climbed 4.3%.
