The benchmark equity indices on Friday, May 2, were trading higher during the afternoon trade amid a volatile session.

At 2:10 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX soared 400.48 points, or 0.50%, at the 80,642.72 level, while NSE’s NIFTY50 was at the 24,391.05 level, advancing 56.85 points, or 0.23%.

On the NIFTY50 index, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors were the top gainers, rising as much as 4.36%.

JSW Steel, Bajaj Auto, Nestle India, HDFC Life Insurance and Eicher Motors were the biggest losing stocks, falling as much as 6.2% on the 50-share index.

On Friday, counters of Nippon India ETF, RailTel Corporation of India, Krystal Integrated Services, Aditya Birla Sun Life Nifty 50 ETF and Sportking India were among the ones witnessing the highest spurt in trading volumes on the NIFTY50 index.

A volume in the stock volume is the number of shares traded in a specific period. A spurt in volume means the stock is witnessing a lot of interest or activity happening around the equity market.

Market investors use this metric to determine their interest in a stock.

As per the stock exchange data, the number of Nippon India ETF shares that changed hands on Friday was over 244.90 times higher than the daily average on the stock counter.

Following that, volumes at the Railtel Corporation of India were 23.47 times higher than the daily average; however, the Krystal Integrated Services counter saw 20.82 times higher volume than the daily average.

Shares of RailTel Corporation soared over 12% during the intraday period after the company posted a 46.3% jump in its net profit for the March quarter at ₹113.45 crore. The Navratna PSU firm net sales for Q4 FY25 increased 57.11% to ₹1,308.28 crore as compared to ₹832.7 crore in Q4 FY24.

Similarly, counters of Aditya Birla Sun Life Nifty 50 ETF and Sportking India witnessed 18.51- and 16.29-times higher volume than the daily average, respectively. Volumes at the Zodiac Clothing Company counter were 15.20 times higher than the daily average.

Counters of Jullundur Motor Agency (Delhi) and Iris Clothings saw 15.20 times and 14.84 times higher trading volumes during the day.

Williamson Magor & Company and MOIL Limited saw 12.35 times and 10.91 times higher volumes, respectively.
