NIFTY50 above 26K, SENSEX rallies 411 pts in noon session; Hindustan Zinc, IndiGo, HCC among buzzing stocks

The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, rallied during Friday’s afternoon session, bolstered by gains in metal stocks and positive cues in the global market.

The SENSEX advanced as much as 0.55% to an intra-day high of 85,282.76. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 touched the session’s high of 26,038.40.

At 12:25 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX soared by 411.27 points, or 0.48%, to 85,229.40. NSE’s NIFTY50 stood at 26,019.70, marking a 121.15 points, or 0.47% jump.

The NIFTY50 index was supported by gains in Hindalco Industries (2.62%), Tata Steel (2.52%), Larsen & Toubro (1.69%), Eternal (1.67%) and JSW Steel (1.60%), which were among the top winners.

On the other hand, the top losers included Hindustan Unilever (-1.76%), Bajaj Auto (-0.87%), Asian Paints (-0.55%), ITC (-0.50%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (-0.47%).

Buzzing stocks on December 12: Check list

Larsen & Toubro

Shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) surged nearly 3% to an intraday high of ₹4,114 apiece on Friday, December 12, as global investment bank Goldman Sachs, in a note, said the company is poised for growth in the defence, green hydrogen and nuclear power sectors.

Analysts at Goldman Sachs expect L&T’s Total Addressable Market (TAM) to rise to ₹3.4 lakh crore by the financial year 2035, compared with the current estimate of ₹1.4 lakh crore for FY26.

Vedanta

Stock of Vedanta gained as much as 2.25% to the session’s high of ₹541 per equity share, after it was declared the successful bidder in respect of the Genjana Nickel, Chromium and PGE Block after fulfilling the required statutory compliances via a letter dated December 10, 2025 (received at 6:30 PM IST).

"This receipt of the successful bidder for the Genjana Nickel, Chromium and PGE Block under Critical Mineral Auctions Tranche III shall further strengthen the company’s critical minerals portfolio," the company said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.

Hindustan Zinc

Hindustan Zinc shares rallied as much as 5.89% to a 52-week high of ₹553.45 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), tracking a sharp increase in silver prices over the past week, both domestic and international.

In the international market, spot silver gained for the third straight session on Thursday, rising by $1.06, or 1.71%, to a record of $62.88 per ounce.

On the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX), white metal futures for March delivery touched a lifetime high of ₹1,99,220 per kilogram on December 11.

Suzlon Energy

Shares of Suzlon Energy rose as much as 2.04% to an intra-day high of ₹53.10 apiece, after the Customs Excise & Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT), Mumbai, ruled in its favour, cutting the penalty down from ₹21.92 crore to nil.

“The Honourable CESTAT, Mumbai, disposed of the matter after the same was referred back to it by the Honourable Supreme Court, accepting the company’s submission and issuing the order dated 10th December 2025, wherein the appeals are allowed in favour of the company,” it said in a regulatory filing dated December 11.

GAIL, IGL, MGL

Shares of oil and gas companies, including GAIL (up 3.16%), Indraprastha Gas (1.42%) and Mahanagar Gas (0.96%), among others, are in focus as Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced amendments to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 2025, aimed at easing business operations.

In a post on X, the minister noted that India continues to strengthen its exploration and production ecosystem. A key reform allows companies to access a wider set of rights under a single petroleum lease, enabling them to conduct all mineral oil–related activities without seeking separate approvals. Lessees can also undertake decarbonisation initiatives and other integrated energy projects at their fields.

The revised rules permit long-term leases of up to 30 years, with extensions based on field economics. Lessees are required to submit annual reports on infrastructure capacity and may jointly develop infrastructure assets.

IndiGo

The stock of IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation increased as much as 1.64% to an intra-day high of ₹4,898 apiece on the NSE.

This comes after the airline received a GST notice of ₹58 crore for FY21 issued by the CGST, South Delhi Commissionerate.

According to a PTI report, the aviation safety regulator DGCA suspended four Flight Operations Inspectors (FOIs) over massive disruptions in IndiGo’s operations, which resulted in the cancellation of thousands of flights and lakhs of people getting stranded across airports.

The airline cancelled over 50 flights from Bengaluru Airport on Friday.

Astra Microwave Products

Astra Microwave Products' stock soared as much as 2.11% to the day’s peak of ₹923.40 per equity share on the NSE on Friday.

This comes after the company received an order for the procurement of six Klystron-based S-band Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radars (DWRs) along with associated systems, including AWS and Disdrometers, with a 3-year warranty followed by 7 years of CAMC for a total consideration of ₹171.38 crore, inclusive of all applicable taxes and GST.

HCC

Shares of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) declined as much as 6.03% to an intra-day low of ₹17.75 apiece, as its ₹1,000 crore rights issue opened for subscription on Friday, December 12.

The rights issue subscription will close on Monday, December 22, with Wednesday, December 17, as the last date for market renunciation. Its board had also fixed the last date for off-market renunciation as Friday, December 19.

On November 26, HCC’s board of directors had approved the issuance of fully paid-up equity shares, with a face value of ₹1 each, for an amount not exceeding ₹1,000 crore via Rights Issue.
