Broader market rallies: Nifty Midcap 100 jumps 1.7%, Adani Total Gas, HPCL, Ircon International among top gainers

The broader market on Monday, May 5, was trading higher during the intraday trade, outperforming the main equity benchmark indices. Sustained foreign fund inflows, a sharp drop in crude oil prices and positive global cues boosted the investors’ sentiment.

During the intraday period, NIFTY Midcap 100 was trading 1.44% higher at the 54,479.60 level, while NIFTY Smallcap 100 was at 16,534.00, gaining 0.56%.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index had opened the session at 53,957.60 levels and touched an intraday high of 54,566.60 levels. The Nifty Smallcap 100 gauge had also hit an intraday high of 16,565.85 after opening at the 16,500.35 mark on Monday.

Top gainers on the midcap index
On the Nifty Midcap 100, Adani Total Gas, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Waaree Energies, Biocon, Polycab India, Indraprastha Gas, Indian Bank, Marico and PB Fintech were top gaining stocks.

Shares of Adani Total Gas jumped over 12% during the intraday period after the firm reported its March quarter earnings last week.

At 1:37 PM, the firm was trading at ₹658.2 apiece, surging 9.75% after its net sales rose 15% to ₹1,341.26 crore in March 2025 from ₹1,166.95 crore in March 2024.

However, its quarterly net profit declined 8% to ₹154.59 crore in the quarter under review from ₹167.96 crore in Q4 FY24.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) shares surged on Monday after crude oil prices were slashed over 3.5% as OPEC+ announced a hike in the output to 411,000 barrels per day from June. During the intraday period, shares of HPCL were trading 6.69% higher at ₹410.8 apiece on NSE.

Other midcap firms like Waaree Energies (4.96%), Biocon (4.59%), Polycab India (4.54%), Indraprastha Gas (4.38%) and Indian Bank (4.34%) also advanced on Monday, adding to the NIFTY Midcap 100 index’s rally.

Shares of Marico climbed over 5% from its previous close after the company’s net profit advanced for the March quarter.

One of the leading players in the FMCG segment last week reported a consolidated net profit of ₹343 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025 (Q4 FY25), up 7.86% against the ₹318 crore profit logged in the year-ago period.

During the intraday period, Marico was seen at ₹723.45 apiece, rising 3.68% on NSE.

Top gainers on the Smallcap index

On the Nifty Smallcap 100, JBM Auto, The Great Eastern Shipping Company, Godfrey Phillips India, Aarti Industries, Mahanagar Gas, Poonawalla Fincorp, Triveni Turbine, Triveni Turbine, Ircon International and Brigade Enterprises were top gaining stocks.

JBM Auto was the top contributor on the index, soaring 5.39%. The firm is expected to announce its March quarter earnings on Tuesday, May 6. Read more

The Great Eastern Shipping Company was another top contributor on the gauge, gaining 4.72%. Godfrey Phillips India, Aarti Industries, Mahanagar Gas, Poonawalla Fincorp, and Triveni Turbine were the other top gainers, surging as much as 4.64%.

Ircon International and Brigade Enterprises also advanced on the sector, rising 3.61% and 3.48%, respectively.
