Shares of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) rose as much as 5.38% to hit an intraday high of ₹287.85 on the BSE on Tuesday after the state-owned defence major announced an order win from the Indian Air Force, valued at ₹2,210 crore.

The Navratna Defence PSU has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence for supply of an indigenously developed Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite for the Mi-17 V5 helicopters. The suite, which includes a Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS), and Counter Measure Dispensing System (CMDS), has been designed by CASDIC, DRDO, and will be manufactured by Bharat Electronics, the company said in an exchange filing.

According to the company, the EW Suite will "significantly enhance the combat survivability of the helicopters" and provide effective countermeasures against airborne threats.

With the latest order, BEL has accumulated orders worth ₹2,803 crore in the current financial year (FY25), highlighting a strong start to new financial year.

BEL reported a turnover of ₹23,000 crore in FY25, registering 16% growth over the previous year’s ₹19,820 crore. However, this came in slightly below the company's earlier guidance for order inflows.

Notably, exports during the fiscal touched $106 million, up 14% year-on-year from $92.98 million in FY24, indicating a steady expansion in BEL’s global footprint.

BEL also confirmed that it secured orders worth ₹18,715 crore during the fiscal, driven by large defence and non-defence contracts. Some of the marquee projects include the BMP II upgrade, Ashwini Radar, Software Defined Radios, Anti-Drone Systems, and various radar and sonar-based systems.

The company has also been actively pursuing diversification into non-defence sectors, contributing to its growing order book and positioning itself for sustainable long-term growth.

With a strong pipeline of indigenous defence technologies and continued government thrust on Atmanirbhar Bharat, BEL remains a key beneficiary of India’s growing defence spend, analysts said. The latest order reaffirms its strategic role in strengthening the country’s defence preparedness while also showcasing its manufacturing and R&D capabilities.

As of 9:21 am, BEL shares traded 4.41% higher at ₹285.20, outperforming the NIFTY50 index which was up 1.75%.
