Bharat Coking Coal is a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd and one of the largest coking coal producers in the domestic market. Ahead of Q3 earnings, Coal India released provisional production and offtake numbers for its different subsidiaries.

Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL) actual production stood at 3.3 million tonnes (MT) in December 2025, down 7.2% YoY compared to 3.5 MT in the same month of 2024. Overall, BCCL production was down 15.2% YoY to 24.7 MT between April 2025 and December 2025. These provisional production updates could give some hint about the actual earnings of the company.

What is offtake in coal production?

In coal production, offtake refers to the actual amount of coal that is lifted, removed, or supplied from a mine's pithead to buyers, such as power plants or steel factories. If Coal India produces 100 million tons (MT) of Coal in a particular month, but the actual transport from mine to consumer was around 95 MT because of reasons like shortage of railway wagons or bad weather conditions, then the offtake will be considered as 95 MT.

Bharat Coking Coal made a strong stock market debut last month, with its shares opening at 95.6% premium on NSE. Bharat Coking Coal stock opened at ₹45 per share compared to the issue price of ₹23 per share.

Since listing, the company’s stock has seen a gradual fall as the stock trades around 39.39 per share, down around 12.6% compared to the listing day high of ₹45.09 apiece.
