Gold and silver prices on May 20: 24k gold rate near ₹93,500 per 10 gram; check the latest price in your city

Domestic gold prices are trading marginally lower after witnessing upbeat movement in yesterday’s trading session. At 11:00 am, the 24K gold rate in the local market stood at ₹93,340 per 10 gram, down ₹360/10 gram compared to yesterday’s closing, while 22K gold was at ₹85,562 per 10 gram.

Gold prices rose at the start of this week amid softness in the US dollar index after credit rating agency Moody’s downgraded the U.S. government's credit rating from Aaa to Aa1 amid growing national budget deficit, rising debt and interest. As a result US dollar declined after the rating downgrade.

A weaker US dollar boosts gold prices because it becomes cheaper for foreign buyers to buy the same amount of gold.

As of 11:00 am, 24K gold rate stood at ₹93,130 per 10 gram and 22K gold at ₹85,369 per 10 gram in the Mumbai markets.

MCX Gold futures trade in line with the movement witnessed in international markets. As of 11:00 am, the MCX Gold June future is down 0.3% at ₹92,930 per 10 gram, with a day high of ₹93,140 and day low of ₹92,830. In the US markets, Gold futures for June delivery were trading 0.6% or $20 lower at $3,213 an ounce.

Silver prices are also trading lower in the local market, around ₹95,430 per kg, down 0.2%. Meanwhile, MCX Silver for July delivery trades 0.3% lower at ₹95,183 per kg as of 11:00 am, while international silver prices trade around $32.3 per troy ounce, down 0.4%.
