The factory is being set up with an initial investment of approximately ₹900 crore in its first phase and is slated to manufacture products from its foods (prepared dishes and cooking aids) portfolio. This will be the company’s tenth factory in the country.
Commenting on the development, Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and Managing Director of Nestlé India, said, "With a steadfast adherence to 'Make in India', we had announced our tenth factory in Odisha, reaffirming the significance of India as a market. We are confident that this upcoming factory will not only help us with our business but will also stand tall as a vibrant example of gender diversity, sustainable manufacturing, and a paperless, digitally managed facility with an abiding focus on the environment.”
Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for the upcoming factory on Thursday.
The announcement came after market hours. Shares of Nestlé India closed at ₹2,240 apiece on Thursday, rising 1.33%.
Nestle India had reported a consolidated net profit of ₹688.01 crore for the October-December quarter of the current fiscal year (Q3 FY25), up 4.9% as against the ₹655.61 crore posted in the year-ago period.
The company's revenue from operations for the reporting quarter increased by 3.9% to ₹4,779.73 crore from ₹4,600.42 crore in Q3 FY24.
The company's standalone net profit surged 6% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹696.13 crore for Q3 FY25, up from ₹655.61 crore in the year-ago period. Its standalone revenue from operations grew 3.9% to ₹4,779.73 crore.
The company's Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) for the December quarter increased to ₹1,103 crore, up from ₹1,095 crore in Q3 FY24. The EBITDA margin stood at 23%.
Nestlé India set up its first manufacturing facility at Moga (Punjab) in 1961, followed by its manufacturing facilities at Choladi (Tamil Nadu), in 1967; Nanjangud (Karnataka), in 1989; Samalkha (Haryana), in 1992; Ponda and Bicholim (Goa), in 1995 and 1997, respectively; Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), in 2006; and Tahliwal (Himachal Pradesh), in 2012.
Nestlé India set up its ninth manufacturing facility at Sanand (Gujarat) in 2021.
