Starting 21 Nov, F&O lot sizes of major NSE and BSE indices are increasing.
Here are the details:
Note:
1. The last expiry dates for the existing lot sizes are mentioned here.
2. After December 24, 2024: If you hold F&O contracts in BANKNIFTY with expiries on 26 Mar 2025, 25 Jun 2025, or 24 Sep 2025 that don't match the new lot size, you won’t be able to close your position and will have to hold it until expiry.
3. After December 26, 2024: If you hold F&O contracts in NIFTY with expiries on 27 Mar 2025, 26 Jun 2025, 25 Sep 2025, 24 Dec 2025, 25 Jun 2026, 31 Dec 2026, or later, that don't match the new lot size, you won’t be able to close your position and will have to hold it until expiry.
4. After December 27, 2024: If you hold F&O contracts in SENSEX with expiries on 28 March 2025, 27 June 2025, 26 September 2025, 26 December 2025, or beyond, and the contracts do not match the new lot size, you will not be able to close the position. You will be required to hold it until expiry.
To avoid this, you can either buy or sell more contracts to match the revised lot size or square off the position beforehand.
